Expert Care for Comprehensive Cardiovascular Health

Chest Pain

Chest pain can be a symptom of various underlying heart conditions, including angina or coronary artery disease. Our clinic offers thorough diagnostic assessments, including stress tests and imaging, to determine the root cause and provide appropriate treatment to alleviate pain and improve heart function.

Shortness of Breath

Experiencing difficulty breathing can indicate a cardiovascular issue such as heart failure or valve disease. We use state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic techniques to identify the source and develop tailored treatment plans that restore breathing ease and overall quality of life.

Palpitations and Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

Irregular heartbeats or rapid fluttering can be unsettling and may signal atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias. Our specialists employ advanced echocardiography, including 3D and trans-oesophageal options, to monitor and manage these conditions effectively, reducing the risk of complications such as stroke.

Valve Disease

We provide in-depth consultations for complex heart health issues, offering expert advice and tailored recommendations. Whether managing ongoing conditions or seeking a second opinion, our specialised consultations ensure you receive personalised guidance and support.

Post-Stroke Cardiac Disease

Recovering from a stroke often involves addressing underlying heart conditions that may have contributed to it. Our team is skilled in identifying and managing these conditions to prevent recurrence and support long-term recovery and health.

Angina

Angina, marked by chest pain due to reduced blood flow to the heart, can limit daily activities and quality of life. We provide accurate diagnosis and create customised treatment plans to manage symptoms and improve cardiac performance.

Advanced Cardiac Imaging Services

We specialise in advanced, non-invasive cardiac imaging to enhance the accuracy of diagnoses and optimise treatment plans:

  • Cardiovascular MRI: Offers detailed images of heart structures and blood flow.
  • Cardiac CT: Helps visualise coronary arteries and detect blockages.
  • Advanced Echocardiography: Includes 3D, trans-oesophageal, and stress echo to evaluate heart function.

Oxford Cardiovascular Health is committed to a patient-centred approach, focusing on identifying the root causes of symptoms. Our clinic prioritises personalised care, ensuring that each treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and lifestyle.

Transthoracic Echocardiogram

The transthoracic echocardiogram is a standard, non-invasive, and radiation-free scan used to assess the structure and function of the heart. It provides essential insights into heart health without causing discomfort.

Contrast Echocardiogram

For cases where ultrasound images are unclear, a contrast agent (a harmless dye injected into the bloodstream) is used to create clearer and more detailed heart images.

Stress Echocardiograms

Stress echocardiograms evaluate how the heart functions under stress. This includes:

  • Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram: Performed at rest and during the administration of dobutamine, a drug that increases heart rate and muscle contraction strength. If a coronary artery is blocked, it will appear as reduced contraction in the affected area of the cardiac wall.

  • Exercise Stress Echocardiogram: Conducted after physical exercise, such as walking on a treadmill or cycling. Blocked coronary arteries can be identified by observing reduced contraction in specific areas of the cardiac wall.

Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE)

This procedure involves inserting a small probe into the oesophagus (gullet) to capture high-resolution images of the heart. It is particularly useful for diagnosing conditions such as:

  • Valve diseases (e.g., leaky valves)

  • Heart infections (e.g., endocarditis)

  • Structural abnormalities (e.g., holes in the heart)

Bubble Echocardiogram

A bubble echocardiogram is similar to a standard echocardiogram but includes the injection of a saline solution with harmless bubbles. This procedure helps identify holes in the heart and is often used after a stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) to determine potential causes.

Contrast Echocardiogram

For cases where ultrasound images are unclear, a contrast agent (a harmless dye injected into the bloodstream) is used to create clearer and more detailed heart images.

CT Coronary Arteries / Cardiac Scan

The CT cardiac scan is a standard test to detect narrowings or blockages in the coronary arteries. Patients benefit from access to a cutting-edge AI tool that predicts their 10-year risk of a fatal heart attack, providing essential insights for preventative care.

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMR)

CMR is a safe, non-invasive, and radiation-free scan that uses magnets to produce detailed images of the heart and blood vessels. This advanced imaging technique identifies:

  • Heart structure and function abnormalities

  • Fibrosis or scarring

  • Previous heart attacks or aneurysms

  • Tumours, clots, myocarditis, or pericardial fluid
Before the scan, our experienced staff will explain the procedure and answer any questions to ensure you feel informed and comfortable.

12-Lead Electrocardiogram (ECG)

The 12-lead ECG is a quick, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps diagnose a range of heart conditions, including:

  • Arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms)

  • Myocardial infarction (heart attack)

  • Heart enlargement or other structural abnormalities
This essential test provides a detailed snapshot of your heart's electrical function and is often the first step in evaluating cardiac health.

Zio Patch

The Zio Patch is a small, discreet wearable device that continuously monitors heart rhythm for up to 14 days. It provides valuable insights into arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, and other irregular heartbeats that may not be detected during a standard ECG. Its compact design ensures comfort and convenience, allowing patients to go about their daily activities while capturing critical cardiac data.
